Learn more about Mathematica 8 here

June 2011 --- In conjunction with their Australian sales partner Edsoft Pty LTD, Wolfram Research announced today that it has recently signed a statewide agreement with the Department of Education and Early Childhood Development (DEECD), for the use of Mathematica in all intermediate and high schools under their guidance, in the State of Victoria, Australia.

This agreement was made possible as part of the Australian Government’s Digital Education Revolution (DER) initiative's National Secondary School Computer Fund, whose goals include giving students and teachers a strong technology foundation within each school. The DEECD decided on Mathematica as the ideal platform to integrate innovative learning technologies across a number of subjects within their curriculum. As a result of the agreement, Mathematica will be available in 450 Government high schools for 230,000 students in years 7-12, and accessible by 20,000 teachers across the State through the DEECD's Ultranet Technology. After leaving high school, students will also be able to use the skills learned through their Mathematica use in higher education and the workforce. Mathematica is used in 100% of the world's top 200 universities as well as 100% of the Fortune 500 companies, making early adoption to the student's advantage.

"Mathematica has long been embraced by the educational community at higher levels, but improvements in functionality as well as usability in the latest versions have greatly increased use of Mathematica in middle and high school education," said Cliff Hastings, Director of Academic Initiatives at Wolfram Research. "With Mathematica being chosen as the perfect tool for creating dynamic classrooms around the world, the teachers at the DEECD are joining a tremendous user base known for their collaboration and passion for education."

In support of this agreement, Wolfram Research and Edsoft Pty LTD will be holding seminars and training for schools, teachers, and parents of students across the State. For further information on how Mathematica is being used in these schools please contact Kim Schriefer at Wolfram Research, USA or Andrew Bennetto at Edsoft Pty LTD Australia.

Mathematica, Wolfram Research's flagship computation, development, and deployment platform is used in educational communities around the world, as well as Fortune 500 companies and government research labs. Wolfram Research also maintains a deep commitment to education through the world's largest free network of technical information websites, including MathWorld --- the #1 website devoted to mathematics --- as well other major resources, Wolfram|Alpha and the Wolfram Demonstrations Project.
